Even while on spring break this week, NMC nursing students were still learning, helping others and making a difference. It was a busy time for students involved in service learning activities in the community and on campus.
"As part of being a Nebraska Methodist College student nurse," said Trisha Baker, "we had the opportunity to participate in an Omaha immersion course to address the issue of food deserts and food insecurity."

Recently, we shared word of Nebraska Methodist College students traveling to Laredo, Texas to help out Habitat for Humanity and make a difference to the people of that community.
But the students of NMC also do plenty of good work right here. Our Immersion experiences are dedicated to showing future healthcare workers how they can make a difference anywhere, and sometimes that means doing things a little closer to home.
A class of students actually just finished up their own Immersion trip in Omaha. And while they didn't board a plane to do so, their work still showcases the kind of dedication that our students bring to their professions no matter the locale.

The home neared completion, not quite move-in ready but nearly there. The students were able to look from one to another with the realization that they had contributed in a substantial way to the future happiness of the couple who would be moving in just a few short days, ready to welcome their new baby into the world.

Nebraska Methodist College is constantly trying to improve methods of education to provide a better experience for students. An old model of doing things might work, but every once in awhile, you want to revisit that model to see if there’s any possible way to change things for the better.
That’s where the Dedicated Education Unit comes in. The result of a partnership between nursing faculty at NMC and the leadership at Methodist Hospital, the DEU seeks to upend expectations of what a clinical rotation means to nursing students.

Through the Mobile Diabetes Center, Nebraska Methodist College students provide crucial diabetes screenings and education in a wide variety of community settings while gaining valuable experience. Through Omaha Gives!, the community will have an opportunity to support the next generation of the Mobile Diabetes Center.

In March, a group of 11 Nebraska Methodist College students participated in the Spring Break Service Immersion, giving them a first-hand look at food issues in the surrounding Omaha community. The service immersion focused on the nutritional status of children among Omaha’s urban population.
