These are just a few of the reactions of the NMC students who participated in the Foot Care Clinic for the Homeless at the Open Door Mission on September 22.

NMC Alum Anne Boatright Transforms Care for Nebraska’s Victims of Sexual Assault

Posted on Mon, Apr 23, 2018

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness and to celebrate progress made possible by special people like NMC alum Anne Boatright (MSN, 2015).

A decade ago, when Anne Boatright, MSN, RN, SANE, FNE, was just starting her nursing career, she began to understand the terrible impact of sexual assault.

“I was working in a hospital’s emergency department at the time and saw a void in the E.D. care,” said Anne. “No one was trained in sexual assault.”

Undaunted by the complexity of the problem, Anne stepped forward to learn more, do more and forge solutions for those whose lives are touched by sexual assault. She focused first on the unmet needs of victims and then on the needs of medical responders, law enforcement and entire communities.

It’s a journey that has earned Anne national recognition for her transformational leadership, as well as her current position as State Forensic Nursing Coordinator within the Criminal Bureau of the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office.

NMC Lead Testing Initiative Fills Important Void In Omaha

Posted on Tue, Apr 26, 2016

The Center for Health Partnerships (CfHP) branch of Nebraska Methodist College is always on the lookout for ways to improve the health status of members of the community.

Recently, the CfHP developed a program that aims to fill a crucial gap in healthcare access and education in a large portion of the Omaha metro area. Lead poisoning continues to threaten children and families in their own backyards, but for years, there hasn’t been an organization that has gone out into the community to offer testing services to kids in need.

That all changed over the past couple months. We’re proud to announce that, through a partnership with the Douglas County Health Department, Nebraska Methodist College will now operate eastern Nebraska’s only mobile lead testing unit.

Omaha Immersion Trip Teaches Sustainability to Students

Posted on Wed, Mar 30, 2016

Recently, we shared word of Nebraska Methodist College students traveling to Laredo, Texas to help out Habitat for Humanity and make a difference to the people of that community.

But the students of NMC also do plenty of good work right here. Our Immersion experiences are dedicated to showing future healthcare workers how they can make a difference anywhere, and sometimes that means doing things a little closer to home.

A class of students actually just finished up their own Immersion trip in Omaha. And while they didn't board a plane to do so, their work still showcases the kind of dedication that our students bring to their professions no matter the locale.
