Omaha, Nebraska - Practicing dissection in an anatomy lab, giving goldfish ultrasounds, racing to don and doff personal protective equipment (PPE), learning how germs spread using glitter.
The activities offered at Healthcare Career Camp at Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) give middle school students a unique opportunity to learn about healthcare careers.
Students will gain firsthand knowledge about nursing, occupational therapy, surgical technology, phlebotomy, sonography and respiratory therapy.
“Middle school students are at the perfect age to discover their interests and gain more insight into potential career paths. This camp lets them see many different healthcare career opportunities that they may have never known were possibilities. Students leave camp excited about the opportunities they have for their future,” said Amy Bliemeister, director of business development at NMC.
The camp includes hands-on activities, tours and simulations led by NMC’s knowledgeable faculty, staff and students.
The camp is from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 15-17.
Students will go behind the scenes with field trips and interactive sessions at Methodist Hospital and Methodist Women’s Hospital.
Hands-on activities will include testing their skills in wound care, basic anatomy, taking vitals, reading X-rays and ultrasound scans, and more.
Students will also experience college courses and talk to instructors about healthcare professions.
Campers should bring their lunch each day. Snacks will be provided.
Drop-off begins at 8:45 am and pick-up ends at 3:45 pm.
