Omaha, Nebraska - Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) is one of the 2023 Best Schools for Men in Nursing.

The American Association of Men in Nursing (AAMN) recognizes nursing schools or colleges that provide significant efforts in recruiting and retaining men in nursing, provide men a supportive educational environment and provide education about the contributions men make to the nursing profession.

“We are honored to receive the AAMN Best Schools for Men in Nursing award again this year. Attracting more men to nursing is not only important to the profession and practice, it’s a critical need. The additional diversity of perspective can enrich problem solving and promote innovative thinking and bridge gender disparities to create a more inclusive environment and strengthen the nursing profession,” said Deb Carlson, NMC president and CEO.

Fourteen colleges received the award at this year’s AAMN conference in New Orleans, La.

In addition to the overall recognition, NMC nursing students Austin Carman received the Outstanding Student of the Year award and Kenton Ewing received the Emerging Leader award.

“The Men in Nursing awards we received have a deeper meaning to me. I received the Outstanding Student Award, which is awarded to a student that goes above and beyond. But for me, receiving the award proved that persistence and hard work pays off,”  said Carman, who is the AAMN Omaha Metro chapter president.

NMC received the Best Schools for Men in Nursing award in 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017.

AAMN focuses on shaping the practice, education, research and leadership for men in nursing, and advancing men’s health. The organization is open to any nurse or nursing student.
