Omaha, Nebraska - Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) recently opened a newly renovated fitness center to help students care for their mental and physical well-being.
The Wellness Engagement (WE) Center, located on the first floor of the Clark Center on the Josie Harper Campus, features cardio and strength training equipment, a group fitness studio, a touchscreen on-demand fitness mirror, towel service, massage chairs, personal lockers and more.
“Producing skillful and caring healthcare professionals is what we do really well at NMC. In recent years, we’ve seen longevity in these healthcare careers, especially nursing, dramatically decrease. Healthcare professionals, particularly those on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic, are experiencing overwhelming stress, anxiety and depression,” said Lindsay Snipes, vice president of institutional effectiveness.
“To counter this trend, NMC aims to provide future healthcare professionals the foundations for well-being to better manage the pressures in their healthcare careers. In alignment with this goal, NMC is proud to open our new Wellness Engagement (WE) Center on campus.”
NMC offers over 40 associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs in nursing, allied health and healthcare management. The holistic culture of caring makes the healthcare education students receive at NMC unique. It gives them the necessary skill set to be competent healthcare professionals.
“The WE Center will be an environment where students can learn and practice caring for themselves so that they can go out into the community and care for others,” Snipes said.
The group fitness studio will offer regular fitness classes taught by certified instructors. The studio can also be used for other workouts when no classes are scheduled. The space features exercise equipment including, TRX bands, kettlebells, jump ropes, medicine balls, resistance bands and more.
The cardio and strength equipment includes treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical and row machines, free weights and functional training equipment. The space also features a touchscreen on-demand fitness mirror and TVs with access to streaming services.
The WE Center is open to currently enrolled students and current employees, and is accessible with a valid NMC identification card.
