Omaha, Nebraska - Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) now offers a one-year practical nurse certificate program.
“The demand for licensed practical nurses in Nebraska continues to grow. Our new one-year LPN program provides a pathway to help address workforce shortages and meet the needs of an aging population,” said Mindy Barna, dean of nursing.
A licensed practical nurse (LPN) provides direct care to patients under the supervision of physicians and registered nurses.
LPNs provide basic care, such as taking vital signs, monitoring patients’ symptoms, collecting samples for analysis, providing wound care, inserting catheters, preparing patients for medical procedures, documenting medical information and reporting the health status of patients to supervising RNs.
Through in-person and online academic coursework, lab activities and clinical experiences, students will be prepared to take the NCLEX-PN and provide compassionate care to patients.
“This program prepares skilled, compassionate nurses to serve our communities and marks a milestone for our college - offering a nursing entry point at every level, from LPN to advanced practice, empowering students to begin and grow their careers with us,” Barna said.
Applications are open and students are accepted from deadlines throughout the year.
After completing the LPN program and meeting admissions requirements, graduates can progress to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program (LPN to BSN).
In addition to the practical nurse certificate program, NMC offers certified nursing assistant (CNA), Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs.
