Omaha, Nebraska - Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) is now offering scholarships for Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Nebraska participants who want to start nursing careers.
“Nebraska Methodist College is excited to partner with JAG in offering hands-on experiences in exploration of health careers and providing scholarships to help students realize their dreams. Together, we can provide pathways to help students build a solid foundation for their future careers,” said Deb Carlson, NMC president and CEO.
JAG provides elective classes for credit, taught by specialists in high schools, middle schools and after-school programs. The curriculum is designed to help students develop vital job skills and gain hands-on experience. NMC provides campus tours and hands-on activities to JAG participants. They also receive a year of support after graduation, guiding them as they transition into careers and post-secondary education.
“JAG prepares students for career success after high school. NMC wants to help these students interested in pursuing a career in nursing with a scholarship for our practical nursing program. Students will be job ready in just one year and will be able to use what they learned in JAG and in the practical nursing program to be a great asset to the Nebraska workforce,” said Amy Bliemeister, director of business development at NMC.
Scholarship recipients will begin the year-long practical nursing program in fall 2025. NMC recently launched its hybrid practical nursing program, which allows graduates to become licensed practical nurses (LPNs) after successfully completing the NCLEX-PN.
This scholarship was created to benefit JAG participants and create a skilled pipeline of future healthcare professionals.
“Over the last few years, Nebraska Methodist College has provided opportunities to hundreds of students interested in exploring careers in healthcare, exemplifying what a true employer partner looks like to JAG Nebraska,” said Tim Callahan, assistant vice president for development at United Way of the Midlands. “Scholarship support from Nebraska Methodist College will provide JAG Nebraska students from across the state with access to continued educational opportunities that they may have not had otherwise. Much like our students need our support and commitment to achieve success, JAG Nebraska needs employers to raise their hand and we thank Nebraska Methodist College for saying yes.”
Applicants must complete the JAG program, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, and submit a personal statement that outlines their active engagement in JAG and their healthcare career goals. Consideration of students’ financial situation will be given to prioritize those who may not be able to afford higher education without assistance. This will require submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
