Omaha, Nebraska - Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) is one of the 2024 Best Schools for Men in Nursing.

The American Association for Men in Nursing (AAMN) recognizes nursing schools or colleges that provide significant efforts in recruiting and retaining men in nursing, provide men a supportive educational environment and provide education about the contributions men make to the nursing profession.

“Receiving the AAMN award underscores the vital role men play in the nursing profession. This honor reflects our commitment to diversity and inclusivity in healthcare, inspiring future generations to embrace nursing as a rewarding career. It highlights the essential contribution men make in fostering a holistic approach to patient care, ultimately enhancing the profession and enriching the lives of those we serve. We are proud to be one of the best places for men to obtain their nursing degree,” said Deb Carlson, NMC president and CEO.

Seventeen colleges received the award at this year’s AAMN conference in St. Louis, Mo.

“NMC receiving the AAMN Best Schools for Men in Nursing award means that we are recognized as a leader in recruiting men in nursing, supporting an educational environment for men and promoting the contributions of men in the nursing profession,” said Austin Carman, nursing student and AAMN Omaha Metro chapter president. “It's important that NMC makes supporting men in nursing a priority because every patient wants someone they can relate to. Having men in the profession brings a new perspective to the table with different innovative ideas.”

NMC received the Best Schools for Men in Nursing award in 2023, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017.

“NMC having a nationally recognized men in nursing chapter means that NMC plays a larger part as a change agent in the future of nursing. NMC is shaping the practice, education, research and leadership for men in nursing and the advancement of men's health,” said Carman.

The AAMN award reviewers’ summary said, “Nebraska Methodist College demonstrated activities and engagement supporting a gender-diverse nursing environment for students and faculty, while maintaining successes in social media, advertising and news stories. They provided sufficient evidence of community engagement, media presence and academic activities resulting in a robust application packet. Without reservation, we support Nebraska Methodist College for the AAMN Best Schools for Men in Nursing designation.”

AAMN focuses on shaping the practice, education, research and leadership for men in nursing, and advancing men’s health. The organization is open to any nurse or nursing student.
