Omaha, Nebraska - Future Healthcare Legends Day at Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) will help high school seniors build leadership skills and prepare for their future careers in healthcare.
The event is from 10 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at the NMC campus at 720 N. 87th St.
“The purpose of the event is to help students understand the impact that they can make as healthcare providers through a variety of activities, including healthcare speakers, discussion with peers and a poverty simulation activity,” said Amy Bliemeister, director of business development.
NMC President and CEO Deb Carlson will welcome students to campus.
“As a high school senior, you should have all the information to make a decision about your future,” she said. “Being able to speak directly to healthcare professionals to learn about the career you’re interested in can help give you the confidence you need to begin your higher education journey.”
At Future Healthcare Legends Day, seniors will gain insight from Jenene VandenBurg, vice president of patient services and chief nursing officer at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital.
The students will get a chance to ask questions to a multidisciplinary healthcare panel. The panel will include healthcare professionals from sonography, nursing, medical laboratory sciences and respiratory care.
During the event, students will also participate in an interactive poverty simulation that will allow them to transform their perspective and prepare them to work with diverse populations.
“We want to help students find their passion for healthcare. And we believe that activities like the poverty simulation where students learn about diversity, social justice, health inequity and the social determinants of health could be life changing for students choosing their career path,” said Bliemeister.
Check-in begins at 9:45 a.m. High school seniors can register online.
