Omaha, Nebraska - Dr. Ferial Pearson, activist and author, will discuss the impact of microaggressions during a virtual event for Nebraska Methodist College (NMC).
“Microaggression Awareness and Resistance” is at 3 p.m. Feb. 7 on Zoom. The event is hosted by NMC’s Student Social Justice and Inclusion Council.
Pearson is an assistant professor of teacher education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
During her presentation for NMC, she’ll discuss the effect microaggressions have personally and professionally.
While she was a teacher at Ralston High School in 2012, Pearson founded the Secret Kindness Agents Project, which encouraged students to perform small acts of kindness.
In 2014, she published the book, “Secret Kindness Agents: How Small Acts of Kindness Really Can Change the World.” In 2020, she published, “Secret Kindness Agents: An Educator’s Guide.”
Her Secret Kindness Agents Project has been featured at Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation and Hallmark, and in Parents Magazine, Learning for Justice and Midwest Living Magazine.
As a Kenyan Indian Muslim immigrant queer disabled woman of color, Pearson is passionate about working towards diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and kindness. She has received national and local awards for her work in education and social justice, has authored two books and has been featured as a speaker on the TEDx Omaha stage.
