Omaha, Nebraska - Four students are recipients of the Scott Scholars Program, a full-tuition scholarship to Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) – The Josie Harper Campus.

Recipients for the fall 2022 academic year are Halle Hall, Paw Ka Pru Htoo, Chelsea Melendez-Sanchez and Mu Hei Thaw.

The Scott Scholars Program provides four renewable full tuition scholarships that cover tuition and fees for incoming students seeking a Bachelor of Science in Nursing through NMC’s traditional nursing program.

“These four students are inspiring. At a time when our communities desperately need skilled, dedicated nurses, they’re stepping forward to do the hard, important work. That takes commitment and courage. We celebrate these women, and we’re grateful to the Scott family for supporting them,” said Tracy Madden-McMahon, president and CEO of Methodist Hospital Foundation, which administers the scholarship.

Scholarship recipients had to demonstrate merit, financial need, leadership potential, a commitment to a career in nursing, and qualities of caring and service to others.

“This award is different because the most important qualification is the students’ ‘heart set.’ Their reason for going into the nursing profession matters. The four award winners stood out with their level of compassion and understanding. We’re honored to have them as students at NMC,” said NMC President and CEO Dr. Deb Carlson.

The Scott family established this scholarship that provides 100% tuition coverage in recognition of the outstanding medical care and personal attention their mother, Carolyn, received from her nurses. Carolyn was a patient at Methodist Hospital in the 1980s.

“Our mother received extraordinary care from a group of exceptional nurses at Methodist Hospital. The care she received brought her comfort during a difficult time. With the Scott Scholars program at Methodist College, we hope to support caring individuals as they pursue their dreams of becoming a nurse,” said the Scott family, Karen Dixon, Sandy Parker and Amy Scott.

The Scott Scholars Program is an opportunity for students to volunteer in the community, meet with NMC leaders and participate in mentoring with nursing professionals at Methodist Health System (MHS).
