Course Description

Healthcare organizations generate large amounts of data about patients, costs, supplies, staffing, and procedures.  A key challenge is to understand and develop insights from these data to improve patient care and services in order to answer the questions that invariably arise.  This course will teach you how to complete an analysis of a set of data and be able to explain the results. 

Course Objectives

  • understand what constitutes data and how to organize it
  • learn to define a question (i.e., what are you trying to find or learn) to explore for a set of data
  • discover how to answer your question(s) with data analysis by applying appropriate statistical summaries and tests
  • be able to explain why you did what you did in your analysis and how the results answer the question(s) posed
  • become familiar with statistical terminology and jargon
  • learn a defined process for analyzing a set of data
  • become confident in justifying decisions based on data analysis and showing how those results answer the question posed
  • improve your approaches for highlighting data analysis results in a clear and understandable manner through the use of memoranda, spreadsheets, and presentation formats
